When I read your question, the first country that automatically jumps to mind is Thailand. Admittedly flights are a little bit more expensive from the States than from my homeland of Australia, but you can still get a flight for just over $1000 from the US (according to kayak.com)

There is so much more to Thailand than girly bars and Phuket. There are great party islands down south, lots of eco-tourism up north, plenty of great options for health retreat holidays & Bangkok is a great cosmopolitan city - amazing food, good shopping & a few unexpected things such as some beautiful parks.

It is really easy to eat & sleep extravagantly for little cash in Thailand, or to keep it simple for even less cash.

Bali & other parts of Indonesia are also perfect for weddings & is another place where you could have an amazing but no frills holiday.
